Manchester United make contact over move for Brian Brobbey - report

Manchester United are preparing a move for RB Leipzig striker Brian Brobbey, according to Manchester Evening News.

The striker has worked with manager, Erik Ten Haag, before at Ajax, and his former manager is apparently considering reuniting himself with the Dutch forward.

The report, from Manchester Evening News’s Daniel Murphy, states that could even be assigned his dream shirt number of 18, if the move takes place.

Murphy said: “Manchester United may look to hijack Ajax’s move for RB Leipzig striker Brian Brobbey as Erik ten Hag looks to improve his attacking options amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Manchester Evening News understands United have made contact with Brobbey and Erik Ten Haag remains keen for a reunion with the former Ajax frontman.

Offensive reinforcements incoming?

With all the uncertainty regarding Portuguese talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo, news of potential reinforcements is just what Man United fans will want to hear at this moment.

Brobbey, came through the ranks in the famous Ajax youth academy, before joining RB Leipzig on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.

He rejoined his former club on loan last season, making 11 Eredivisie appearances scoring seven goals in that time, and providing one assist.

The 20-year-old also made four Champions League appearances and will be a signing that will excite fans if the Red Devils are to complete this deal.

He is a player that is indicative of the philosophy Ten Haag is trying to implement at Old Trafford with Ronaldo, a prolific centre-forward that offers very little pressing-wise, potentially being offloaded in favour of a striker 17 years his junior with much more energy and pace to bring to the team.

Brobbey is a player with immense strength but also the speed to cause problems in behind defences and finish clinically.

The Netherlands under-21 international can be used as a focal point to build attacks off of and bring others into play, or he can alternatively be used a player in transition with his agility and his tendency to move into wide positions to get involved in play.

He would be a useful asset to Ten Haag if United can get this deal over the line.

In other news, Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland has now confirmed his shirt number.
