Manchester United rising starlet Alvaro Fernandez closing in on loan move to Preston – report

Manchester United starlet Alvaro Fernandez is set to seal a loan move to Preston North End, according to The Athletic.

Fernandez was named as United’s Under-23 Player of the Season for 2021/22 after lighting up the Premier League 2 as they finished sixth.

However, Erik ten Hag has brought in Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord so The Athletic reported on Tuesday morning (26 July) that he has taken the decision to move Fernandez out on loan.

The report states that Alvarez had interest from Bundesliga clubs, but instead has taken the decision to remain in England.

Fernandez is yet to make his senior bow, so his move to the Lilywhites will be a big step up for him as he looks to prove his worth to ten Hag.

A good move

While it may look confusing to choose Preston over the Bundesliga, the decision makes complete sense when you look at their recent record at developing youth.

Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg has spent the last 18 months at Deepdale and matured incredibly quickly over his 61 league appearances, with Alan Nixon reporting on Patreon that he is now set for a move to Bournemouth.

Likewise, Cameron Archer joined Preston on loan from Aston Villa and earned his maiden callup to the England Under-21 squad and has earned a shot at the Villa first team.

Most notably, David Beckham joined the Lilywhites for a brief spell during the 1994/95 season and earned his spot in Sir Alex Ferguson’s United team.

He will be joining Spurs starlet Troy Parrott in heading to Deepdale, with the Irish international signing for Ryan Lowe’s side on Monday evening (25 July).

Moving to Preston is a smart move for Fernandez and the Spanish starlet should be given the room to shine at Deepdale.
