Manchester United sensation Anthony Elanga gets well-deserved Sweden call-up

By Anubhav Sarker

To call Manchester United’s season as poor would be an understatement. This was the season they were meant to put up a serious title charge, but everything has come crashing down like a pack of cards.

Despite all this, Swedish teen sensation Anthony Elanga has managed to be the shining light in their miserable season.

After impressing coaches in the academy for the past two seasons, Elanga was drafted into the first-team squad after Mason Greenwood’s suspension. The Swedish teenager has taken his chance with both hands and is making the most out of it.

Janne Andersson named his Sweden Squad for the World Cup qualifiers this week and included Elanga in it. Those who have witnessed his remarkable rise this season will in no way be surprised by these recent developments.

He has taken to first-team football like a duck to water and has fast become a crowd favourite amongst the United faithful at Old Trafford. So much so that they serenade him with a chant to the tunes of ‘Rhythm is a dancer’ every time he is on the pitch:

Rhythm is a dancer, Anthony Elanga,

You won’t stop him if you dare,

Came from Scandinavia,

To be United’s saviour,

Scoring goals from everywhere.

Quick, smart, and a right mentality

A tricky winger with rapid straight-line speed, Elanga’s most underrated trait is his ability to make smart darting runs into the box. So far, he has made good quick decisions on the ball and likes to keep things simple.

As is with most youngsters, there are certain facets to his game that need polishing, but those who have worked closely with him are confident Elanga has the right mentality to keep improving his game.

There is a lot more to come from Anthony Elanga and United would do well to protect him and ensure he doesn’t go astray.

In other Manchester United news, United already have their next Paul Pogba.
