Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho says squad has something to prove
Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho believes the squad has something to prove after an extremely disappointing season last year.
The 22-year-old joined the club last summer in a blockbuster deal from German giants Borussia Dortmund.
However, his debut season was an undeniable disappointment by his standards and now he has vowed that the club are ready to make up for a poor campaign in 2021/22.
He said, via The Mirror: “Last year wasn’t great and I feel like everyone has something to prove for this upcoming season.
“We don’t want to put performances in like we did last year and upset the fans.
“Some fans travelled for a long time to get to the stadium and watch us not perform but I’m sure, this year, everyone is going to make up for that and make sure every game we play we put 100 percent in and make sure the fans are smiling at the end of the game.”
Big season for Sancho
The England international will be looking to have a much more successful term in his sophomore season at the club.
His first year was a difficult period for the youngster, who played under multiple managers and failed to live up to expectations on him, struggling to cement a place in the first-team.
Sancho moved to Old Trafford after four successful years in Germany where he scored 50 goals and provided 64 assists in 135 games for BVB.
This scintillating contribution rate of a goal or assist every 1.2 games dropped significantly in his debut season for United and disappointed many fans.
The former Man City youth international only scored five goals and provided three assists in 38 appearances across all competitions, registering a goal contribution every 4.75 games.
He will be looking to find form again next season and show the world why Manchester United invested so heavily on him a year ago.
