Manchester United wonderkid Facundo Pellistri called up to Uruguay World Cup squad
Manchester United wonderkid Facundo Pellistri has been called up to Uruguay’s World Cup squad despite not playing for the Red Devils this season.
The 20-year-old is one of United’s most promising talents but has yet to have been utilised by new boss Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
United signed the youngster in 2020 following a £7.2m deal with Penarol, however, the winger has never managed to play for the senior team.
The winger has mainly featured for the Under-21s, where he has registered three goals and one assist in nine appearances.
This hasn’t stopped Uruguay from calling up the youngster for the World Cup however, with Pellistri being named his country’s initial early list.
This doesn’t mean the youngster can’t still miss out on the squad with cuts still needing to be made to coach Diego Alonso’s final squad.

Unfortunate.
It seems Pellistri’s time at Old Trafford has been cursed so far with the winger failing to impress bosses that he is capable of making a dint in first-team action.
It’s impossible to judge whether or not the youngster could be of use to ten Hag moving forward, he’s untried, untested and has not been given an opportunity.
In the jam-packed fixture schedule, Pellistri could be a useful weapon for United to use when needed, hopefully, he gets a chance sooner, rather than later.
Two years have passed and the 20-year-old still hasn’t had a first-team game despite impressing in pre-season, scoring against Liverpool in Bangkok.
Maybe Erik ten Hag doesn’t trust youngsters within the United setup? Pellistri, Zidane, Savage and Mainoo have all been included on the bench but made few appearances.
Sometimes managers need to show some bravery in their selections, providing players like Pellistri with a chance to become a star and make an impact.
The inconsistency from Rashford and Sancho screams for other options, there’s no reason not to give the young winger a shot at some point.
