West Ham want to sign Manchester United defender Di’Shon Bernard
West Ham are reportedly keen on signing Manchester United defender Di’Shon Bernard.
According to The Mirror (17 April, page 71), the Hammers are eyeing a summer swoop for the 21-year-old who has made one senior appearance for the Red Devils.
Bernard played in the Europa League for United and faced the ignominy of scoring an own goal on his first-team debut against Astana.
Since then, he has managed to put in some stellar performances on loan at Salford City as well as Hull City.
This term, he has been a regular for Hull and is one of their most important players.
He’s played in most league games for manager Shota Arveladze’s side and his impressive displays have caught the eye of the West Ham hierarchy.
The London-born defender has two more years left to run on his deal at Old Trafford and it remains to be seen whether the new manager is willing to part ways with him.
Erik ten Hag has been the favourite to take over at the helm and would certainly like a pre season with the younger players before taking a call on their futures.
The Hammers are in dire need of defensive reinforcements despite the fact that Angelo Ogbonna is likely to sign a new deal.
Kurt Zouma has been injury prone this season while Issa Diop has been unconvincing in his absence.
It remains to be seen if Bernard himself is ready to step up and play for a top half Premier League side week in and week out.
In other West Ham news, Gideon Kadua shined for the West Ham U18s in a 6-0 demolition of Reading.
