Zidane Iqbal and Charie Savage join Manchester United senior team for pre-season tour - report

Manchester United starlets Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage have joined the team for their pre-season tour of Thailand after getting new squad numbers.

The team will play a game against Premier League rivals Liverpool on 12 July in Bangkok at the Rajamangala Stadium.

This comes after the duo were recently given new squad numbers ahead of the new season.

The report from Manchester Evenings News’s Isaac Johnson said: “Manchester United youngsters Charlie Savage and Zidane Iqbal have been handed fresh squad numbers ahead of the club’s pre-season flight to Thailand.

“A total of 31 players are on the flight though, including James Garner, Hannibal Mejbri and Alejandro Garnacho. Savage and Iqbal make the cut too, and have been handed new first team numbers.”

Man United focusing on the youth?

With new manager Erik Ten Haag being a big fan of having faith in youth players and with the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt making names for themselves under Ten Haag it is good news for this current crop of talented Man United youth players.

The former Ajax manager has already confirmed the signing of Feyenoord full-back Tyrell Malacia and the 22-year-old has joined the team for their pre-season tour.

This will be music to the ears of players like Iqbal, Savage, Garnacho, Mejbri, not to mention Anthony Elanga.

However, receiving two first-team numbers is great news for the duo, and a huge indication that they play a part in Ten Haag’s plans.

The 19-year-olds have made a combined 98 appearances for the club in youth games including a memorable Champions League appearances when they both came on as substitutes against Young Boys on the 8 December.

Time will tell how Ten Haag will plan on using the duo, but the future looks bright for the pair.

In other news, Manchester United have made contact with RB Leipzig over striker Brian Brobbey.
