Ben Jacobs piles praise on Garang Kuol after Newcastle United complete transfer
Journalist Ben Jacobs has delivered his verdict on Newcastle United signing Garang Kuol, who will join the Magpies permanently in January.
Newcastle United have used their new-found wealth to scout the globe for the most promising young talents, and their search landed them in Australia with Garang Kuol.
The 18-year-old striker has shone over the last year for the Central Coast Mariners, and on the same week he was handed his Australia debut, he sealed a move to the Premier League.
Despite being a relatively unknown profile in sport, CBS Sports writer Jacobs has given his insight into Kuol’s talents.
Via his Twitter post, Jacobs wrote: “Kuol is a fearless and versatile forward.
“Very confident on the ball and wastes no time attacking defenders.
“Barcelona boss Xavi saw him in a friendly and said, “He’s very fast and he created many chances. So a great player and a great future. He’s a talent.”
Make or break
Having now made an early step up to the Premier League, Kuol is at a crossroads in his career. Newcastle clearly think he’s got the potential to become world-class, but it’s now down to him to prove it. Under the highest pressure.
At just 18 years old he has plenty of time to keep improving, but with plenty of eyeballs on Newcastle’s transfer activity since their Saudi-backed takeover, Kuol’s career will now be under the media spotlight.
But Kuol’s aware of the pressure that comes with joining Newcastle, and currently, he has his sights set on starring in the World Cup.
After his move was announced, Newcastle United’s official website shared Kuol saying: “It’s unreal. As a young boy in Australia, the Premier League is the main thing that everyone watches but nobody actually thinks they’ll reach those heights. To be one of those people, to be in the position I am, it’s amazing.
“Now that I’ve signed for Newcastle, I want to train hard, play hard, hopefully go to the World Cup and come back here.”
Eddie Howe will likely want to keep Kuol under wraps as a long-term project at St James Park – it’s up to the player to prove he’s ready to push for the first team now.
