Newcastle United confirm the signing of exciting teenage starlet Garang Kuol

Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Australian striker Garang Kuol from Central Coast Mariners on Friday.

The 18-year-old made his international debut for Australia against New Zealand on Sunday and will now move to St. James’ Park in January.

Kuol has had a host of clubs chasing his signature, however, the youngster chose Newcastle’s project as the most desirable to progress his career.

Speaking to the Sun, Newcastle’s Sporting Director Dan Ashworth spoke of the club’s ambitions to invest thoroughly in their youth system, creating players for the future rather than here and now, Garang is the start of this.

“Garang is a very promising young talent and we are excited that he’ll be continuing his development as a Newcastle United player,” said Ashworth.

“Our philosophy is to invest in our Academy and in exciting young players for the future, as well as in players required to make an immediate impact in the first team.

“We wish Garang the best of luck in his remaining games with Central Coast Mariners and we hope to see him on the international stage again very soon.”

All-star.

Kuol’s rise to the top has been steep and quick; he made his debut back in December and has since come on leaps and bounds.

He scored four goals in his first seven A league games, a mean feat for any player regardless of the level of competition.

The 18-year-old was then selected to be part of the 2022 A-League All-Stars game that played against Barcelona in front of 70,000 fans in Sydney, so he’s no stranger to playing to a large fan base.

He certainly adds some firepower to Eddie Howe’s exciting attack and it will be interesting to see how the Englishman utilises him from January onwards.

It’s also great to see Newcastle investing in youth rather than spending big on already established names, especially considering their status as the richest club in the world.

Kuol looks like he can be a serious threat to Premier League defences in the future, his rise for the Magpies should intrigue every football fan.
