Newcastle United dealt blow in chase of Benjamin Sesko - report

Newcastle United may have missed out on another transfer target this summer with Benjamin Sesko unlikely to leave RB Salzburg, according to the Chronicle.

Eddie Howe is keen to add a striker to his Magpies’ repertoire before the Premier League season begins but he has had no luck so far and this path looks to be a dead end too.

The 19-year-old Slovenian has already seen his Salzburg strike partner Karim Adeyemi leave to join Borussia Dortmund and that is why he is unlikely to leave.

“The situation is very clear,” a club source told ChronicleLive. “Benjamin Sesko is a young and very important player for FC Red Bull Salzburg with a long-term contract and we are planning to play with him the season.”

The Toon have already seen French teenager Hugo Ekitike get away from their grasp and he has now signed with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Another one bites the dust

Newcastle United are just not getting a break this summer and it is threatening to undo their early good work in signing Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Matt Targett to complete their defensive revolution.

Ekitike had been the long-term target but he went elsewhere and now Salzburg are understandably unwilling to let another top striker go after Adeyemi’s escapade to Germany.

But now the Magpies are facing a problem where they are running out of options in the number nine area but Howe does at least have a pair of Premier League-quality attackers already signed up at St James’ Park.

Callum Wilson would likely be the starting man through the middle if he is fit with Chris Wood there to offer a different type of angle with his bustling height and aerial ability.

Sesko is more similar to Wood as a striker but combines qualities of both which is why he is so highly rated but Toon will have to wait until another transfer window to get their man.

In other Newcastle United news, this Paris Saint-Germain number nine could offer them salvation if they decide to make a move.
