Newcastle United track Rangers starlet Cole McKinnon for January transfer

Newcastle United are tracking Rangers starlet Cole McKinnon, and the Magpies are weighing up a bid for the midfielder in the January transfer window, as per The Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reported on their online edition on 5 September that the mega-rich Premier League club have sent scouts to watch the 19-year-old young talent.

The midfielder is currently on loan at Partick Thistle in the Championship, and the Magpies appear to be very interested in signing him.

Terrific young talent

McKinnon is a highly-rated teenager and Rangers have big hopes for him.

He is growing at a tremendous rate, and the club sent him on loan for that purpose only. He has scored two goals for the Jags already, including one against Arbroath at the weekend.

The youngster made his senior debut for the Glasgow giants in the final Scottish Premiership game last season, where he scored in the 3-1 win over Hearts.

Rangers have already rewarded him with a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2025.

The Bears need to take a stand here. We all know what happened to Billy Gilmour who was lured away by Chelsea.

They cannot afford to avoid the same mistakes. He is yet to properly cement his place in the senior side under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and the Gers must give him the platform to shine.

Having said that, Newcastle are a wealthy club and they will be looking to tempt him with a better offer. The youngster needs to make his career choice wisely.

In other Chelsea news, the club agreed to let Callum Hudson-Odoi leave on loan during the window.
