William Saliba suggests talks have begun over new and improved Arsenal contract

Arsenal defender William Saliba has suggested that he is in talks with the London club over agreeing a new and improved contract, according to The Evening Standard.

The French defender has had a sensational start to life in the Premier League and has gained many plaudits for his performances.

The 21-year-old will be top of Arsenal’s priority list to tie down to a new contract, especially after his early season exploits.

Speaking to The Evening Standard, the Arsenal ace hinted that talks had started between him and the London club’s hierarchy over a new deal.

“Yeah, we will see. They [Arsenal and my agent] talk a little bit. [When I spoke with Arteta in the summer], he talked about my last season and he explained the project for this season,” Saliba said.

“You have to wait every time and I wait a long time for my first north London derby. I enjoyed it since the first minute to the end, and now I am so happy. We are so happy to win at home against Tottenham. It was a hard game, but we were focused all the game. We deserve this win.”

Monster.

Saliba is arguably the best central defender in the Premier League right now and his monstrous form isn’t going unnoticed with Arsenal keen to tie him down to a long-term contract.

However, the defender will be in no rush to get tied down to a lengthy deal, he’ll be being chased by Europe’s elite and will want to consider his options.

The sky really is the limit for Saliba right now and if he continues his fine form it’s hard to look past the Gunners as being real title contenders.

He’s still years away from his prime, which is arguably the most exciting factor about Saliba, and right now he is in the form of his career.

With two years still left on his current Arsenal contract, this one isn’t time sensitive but the Gunners will want to get him tied down sooner, rather than later.

Arsenal must give him a new and improved deal, or they risk losing a key talent in the next few years.
