Chelsea could face competition from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur for Josko Gvardiol - report

Chelsea could reportedly face stiff competition from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

According to The Telegraph, all three clubs are in the market for centre-backs and the 20-year-old is expected to be a target this summer.

The left-footed defender is rated as one of the best youngsters in the world and is already on Chelsea’s eight-man shortlist.

The Croatian is a terrific central defender who can also deputise as a left-back.

His versatility along with his age make him an exceptional option for some of England’s top clubs looking to sign a potential world-class player at a young age.

Given the interest in his services, it’s almost certain that the Croatia international will leave Leipzig sooner rather than later.

Whether or not the move happens this summer, remains to be seen, but regardless, any club signing him will be thrilled by his addition.

Both Chelsea and United need a recognised left-footed centre-back and the former are in dire need of defenders as they face a massive exodus in that department.

For United, Harry Maguire’s form has dipped while Raphael Varane is struggling to adapt to life in the Premier League.

Even Spurs could do with a left-side centre-back as they’re using Ben Davies, a left-back by trade, to play at the heart of defence under Antonio Conte.

It will certainly be an eventful summer for Gvardiol with many clubs vying for his services.

In other Chelsea news, French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni could be the long term replacement for N’Golo Kante.
