Fabrizio Romano: Brentford set to announce signing of Bologna defender Aaron Hickey
Brentford are set to announce the signing of Bologna defender Aaron Hickey this week after the 20-year-old completed his medical according to Fabrizio Romano.
Sky Sports reported on Tuesday 5 July that the two clubs were close to finalising a £14million move for the Scottish international.
It has since been suggested by Romano via his Personal Twitter account that a deal is close to being completed for the left-back.
Great signing
Brentford’s recruitment is about as good as you can get and it is pretty much a certainty that the youngster will go on to be a success in West London.
Hickey managed an impressive five goals and one assist from left-back for the Serie A side in the 2021/22 campaign and will be a player who can make an immediate impact for Thomas Frank’s side as well as be an asset for the future.
It is a surprise that Brentford haven’t faced any sterner competition for the youngster and have appeared to have secured a good value deal for Hickey.
Hickey made an excellent decision in leaving Hearts in September 2020 and moving to Italy where he has gained vital first-team experience with Bologna.
For younger players, it is crucial that they play as much football as possible and Hickey has certainly done that this season.
He will get plenty of opportunities at Brentford, with the Bees happy to take risks in terms of their selection and recruitment.
