Loan watch: Crystal Palace loanee Jesurun Rak-Sakyi thriving at Charlton
Crystal Palace youngster Jesurun Rak-Sakyi made the short move across South London to sign for Charlton Athletic on loan in the summer.
The move to The Valley is the 20-year-old’s first spell away from Selhurst Park and the winger has hit the ground running in League One. Rak-Sakyi has predominantly operated in a wide position and has managed two goals and two assists so far in Charlton’s league campaign.
He has been an exciting watch for Charlton with his direct running and dribbling ability really catching the eye for Ben Garner’s team. As per Wyscout, the right winger has an expected goal of 4.25 so far this season, which is a good sign for Palace fans with his actual tally of four displaying that he isn’t overperforming and that it isn’t likely to be a fluke start to the season.
Unsurprisingly, Rak-Sakyi is among the best carriers of the ball in the third tier. He has attempted 62 dribbles so far in the 2022/23 season which ranks him sixth in the whole of the league. Considering the frequent nature of which he dribbles, a 60 per cent success rate is excellent from the young winger.
Rak-Sakyi does have areas of his game that he can certainly improve upon. He has only attempted 12 crosses so far this season and for a wide man, he should certainly be looking to provide more balls into the area. Furthermore, a shot accuracy of 30 per cent isn’t the best from the 20-year-old.
If he can improve his quality and composure in the final third and add more assists to his game then the youngster could well go on to be a star for Crystal Palace in the future.
