Mateo Joseph set to be offered new £1m-per-year contract by Leeds United - journalist

Leeds United are readying a new contract for 19-year-old striker Mateo Joseph with the Spaniard set to earn around £1million per year, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist has revealed (Patreon, 27 November) the striker is set to be offered a deal worth £19,000 a week plus bonuses.

Joseph’s current deal runs until the summer of 2025 and his new deal is understood to have an extra year included to take him through to 2026.

Great business

This is superb work from Leeds with the striker in excellent form for the under-21s side at Elland Road. His performances earned him a first-team appearance in the Whites’ Carabao Cup defeat to Wolves just before the World Cup break.

Joseph has 12 goals in 13 appearances this season and looks like a player who will be making big strides in the first eleven in the coming years. Against Wolves, he didn’t look out of place, with the Spaniard proving to be Leeds’ main attacking threat at Molineux. Leeds have a number of young players who are coming through the ranks at the moment.

Sonny Perkins, Joe Gelhardt, Darko Gyabi, Crysencio Summerville and Sam Greenwood have all made an impact in recent weeks and it puts the Yorkshire side in a strong position moving forward. Patrick Bamford’s form has been a real issue for Jesse Marsch this season, but with an array of young talent coming through at Elland Road, the answer to his striker issues may well lie a little bit closer to home.
