Newcastle United plan £2.5m raid of Sunderland for Chris Rigg - report

Newcastle United are planning a £2.5million raid of their fierce rivals, Sunderland, for 15-year-old midfielder Chris Rigg according to The Sun.

It’s understood that Everton have also shown interest in the midfielder, but they may not be able to match the Magpies’ bid.

The Sun also suggested (10 September) that the Blackcats are keen to keep hold of the youngster but may not be able to turn down that kind of money for Rigg.

Huge fee

This is simply a huge transfer fee for a 15-year-old and it would be understandable to see Sunderland put their rivalry with Newcastle to one side due to the money they could potentially receive for Rigg.

From a Newcastle perspective, this looks like an excellent bit of business that could see them add a gem to their ranks who could potentially make an impact for years to come.

Everyone expected Newcastle to splash the cash in a ludicrous way this summer, instead, they have recruited cleverly and in areas that they needed to strengthen without overpaying.

Rigg would be an example of an investment in the future, with the 15-year-old potentially being an asset for the club in the coming years.

For Sunderland, £2.5million is a lot of money in the Championship and that could be used to add more quality to their squad which could propel them back into the Premier League after years of disappointment.

This looks like a deal that suits all the parties involved, except for maybe Sunderland fans, who could be a little bit aggrieved to lose one of their best youngsters to their close rivals.

In other Newcastle news, The club are tracking Rangers starlet Cole McKinnon for a January transfer
