Southampton bid up to £10m for Manchester City goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu - report
Southampton have made their move for Manchester City goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu with a bid for the Republic of Ireland number one, as revealed by the Daily Mail.
The south coast club have lined up 20-year-old as a replacement for Fraser Forster who joined Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday [8 June].
The Mail revealed [8 June] that Southampton are “hoping” to sign the goalkeeper in a deal worth up to £10million.
Bazunu spent last season on loan at Southampton’s bitter rivals Portsmouth with the young keeper winning Pompey’s player of the season award in a stellar season for Danny Cowley’s side.

If the Saints manage to secure the signing of Bazunu then it is a major coup for Ralph Hasenhüttl.

Bazunu is a player who is going to go to the very top of the game and it is unfortunate that Ederson stands in his way at the Etihad stadium.
If there was any doubt over the number one shirt at Manchester City then Bazunu would almost certainly be giving a shot.
Unfortunately for the Ireland international, there is little doubt over the number one position for Pep Guardiola’s side.
There is certainly an opportunity for a side to capitalise on Bazunu’s situation as he needs to be playing regular first team football in the 2022-23 season.
A move away from City with a potential buy-back clause could be an option as City will be reluctant to lose one of their biggest young talents.
Bazunu must make sure he’s playing regularly in a relatively successful side and whether a move to Southampton is the answer remains to be seen.
In other Southampton news, Southampton are also interested in forward Liam Delap.
