Southampton reach agreement to sign Sekou Mara from Bordeaux

Southampton have reached an agreement to sign 19-year-old striker Sekou Mara from Bordeaux.

The French club made an official announcement confirming that the France under-21 international will play his football at St. Mary’s from next season.

There were few other Premier League clubs in the race to sign him but he’s set to move to the Saints.

Via Twitter, they wrote, “Agreement in principle with @SouthamptonFC for the transfer of @S_Mvrv . The striker will join England in order to pass his medical examination and sign his contract.”

Good move

Mara was one of Ligue 1’s best young attackers and he hit the ground running only in the 2021/22 campaign.

It did not look like it was his first season as a senior player as he played with such maturity and became a regular for the Ligue 1 side.

However, after their relegation it was quite clear that he was going to be on his way out and he’s got a move to the Premier League.

It will be interesting to see how Ralph Hasenhuttl plans on integrating him into the team and whether or not he sees him as a regular starter.

We think he’ll possibly be given the whole of next season to adapt to life in the Premier League and be a regular cup player with minutes off the bench in the league.

There’s clearly a long-term vision behind this deal and we cannot wait to see him in action as he’s certainly arrived with a lot of intrigue.

In other Southampton news, Ralph Hasenhuttl is keen to add some firepower to his strikeforce and has identified this England youth international as the man for him.
