Southampton sign Jayden Meghoma from Spurs on initial scholarship deal

Southampton have completed the signing the 16-year-old full-back Jayden Meghoma from Spurs on an initial scholarship deal.

The Saints made an official announcement on Tuesday, 4 October and he is expected to now join the Southampton Under-18s side.

Meghoma follows Samuel Amo-Ameyaw through the door, who also joined Saints’ academy earlier in the summer from Spurs.

Via Twitter, the Saints wrote, “Another addition to #SaintsFCU18s. Talented young full-back Jayden Meghoma has joined #SaintsFC on a scholarship deal.”

Right move

It is unquestioned that Southampton are one of the best talent hubs for young players in England and we can understand his move to the south coast.

While the Saints may be viewed as a smaller club in comparison to Spurs, what they do to develop young talent, is second to none.

The club’s ethos is to buy players for a bargain and then sell them for a huge profit a few years down the line.

They hire such coaches who can see the best in players and also help them work on their weaknesses in the due course.

Meghoma is a mature player who’s comfortable with the ball at his feet and is good going forward as well – something that’s important in a modern-day full-back.

Defensively too, he is sound and while there are aspects to his game that are still very raw, he will get the training and should be ready for the first team within a few years.
