View: Aston Villa youngster Tim Iroegbunam thriving on loan at Queens Park Rangers

Things haven’t been going completely to plan for Aston Villa of late with Steven Gerrard being relieved of his duties with the club currently 17th in the Premier League.

The Villans’ first eleven have been far from the complete package in the 2022/23 season and the feeling around the club is not a happy one at present. However, there should be some positives taken by some of the club’s players who are currently plying their trade out on loan in the EFL.

Finn Azaz has been a revelation at Plymouth Argyle so far with the Pilgrims currently top of League One with the 22-year-old the club’s top scorer (six goals).

Another Villa youngster who has arguably been more impressive this campaign is 19-year-old Tim Iroegbunam, who has been excelling for Championship leaders QPR. Former Villa assistant Michael Beale has been a good influence on the midfielder, who has adapted to life well in his first loan move away from Villa Park.

Working with Beale is clearly doing wonders for Iroegbunam who has featured nine times for Rs since his arrival in West London. His most recent display was against Wigan Athletic on Saturday (22 October).

The 19-year-old has proven to be a top-quality midfielder, who can break play up defensively, distribute the ball well and drive his team up the field. Against the Latics, he won 60 per cent of his defensive duels (Wyscout), which has been his average throughout the season.

His passing over the course of the season has been a notable strength, particularly on Saturday with Iroegbunam managing a 100 per cent long pass success rate against Wigan (3/3). Furthermore, he completed five out of six passes to the final third of the pitch, which shows his eagerness to be progressive from the centre of midfield.

His forward-thinking nature is also displayed by the youngster averaging over five dribbles per 90 minutes which shows his confidence on the ball at the moment for QPR.

After the success of Jacob Ramsey for Villa, Iroegbunam is certainly a name which could well be making an impact in the first team in the 2022/23 season.
