View: Frank Lampard influence already helping Amadou Onana at Everton

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has made a solid start to life with the Toffees after his summer arrival from Ligue 1 side Lille.

Onana was eased into proceedings by Frank Lampard but has grown into a first-team regular in recent weeks and has started the last four games for the Toffees.

A big positive for Everton is that his performance levels are pretty much identical to how they were with Lille in the 2021/22 season.

As per Wyscout, his defensive duel success rate is only 4 per cent lower for Everton than it was for Lille last year which shows that he isn’t allowing the step-up in quality to impact his current performance.

Another positive for Evertonians is that his passing statistics have improved in the early part of this season compared to the 2021/22 campaign.

His through ball accuracy has improved by nearly 20 per cent this season and his long ball accuracy by 10 per cent. Onana was drawn to Goodison Park to work with Lampard and the Chelsea legend’s influence could well be having an impact on his performance, particularly his passing.

Onana has also shown an eagerness to get on the ball and make things happen for Everton. This season has seen the 20-year-old receive the ball four more times than he did per 90 in the 2021/22 season.

For a youngster coming to the Premier League, it’s a good sign to see him wanting to influence proceedings and not shy away from the ball.

Like any young player, Onana still has plenty of areas to improve and work on, but the early faith from Lampard to be a regular in his Everton midfield has certainly seen Onana take to the Premier League well.
