View: Josh McPake latest performance should send reminder to Rangers

Josh McPake is a name Rangers fans will be familiar with but the 21-year-old is not someone who has featured regularly at Ibrox.

The wide man is currently on his sixth loan spell away from the club and is desperately trying to show he is able to make a first-team impression at Ibrox.

However, his most recent loan spell at Queen’s Park has not gone completely to plan, with the 21-year-old failing to register a goal or an assist in his first nine games at the Scottish Championship club.

Considering the step-up in quality required to make Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s first team, McPake is somewhat at a make-or-break point when it comes to his future.

As per Wyscout, the wide man failed to register anything in terms of expected goals in five of his opening nine matches, registering only two shots during that period.

However, he could well have saved his loan spell and potentially his Ibrox career from the brink after his electric display against Partick Thistle in his latest performance.

McPake scored twice and registered one assist during his side’s 4-0 win. McPake was a threat throughout the game, operating predominantly from the left wing. He played with a freedom which has clearly been missing from his game in recent years.

Against Partick Thistle, he managed five progressive runs (carrying the ball 30 meters), which shows a player who is 100 per cent confident in his ability with the ball.

He amassed a 67 per cent success rate when it came to his dribbling and also won 70 per cent of his offensive duels. McPake looked like a completely different player and it’s now up to the 21-year-old to continue this level of performance.

There could still be light at the end of the Rangers’ tunnel for McPake.
