View: Everton loanee Lewis Dobbin due upturn in form for Derby County
Lewis Dobbin is a player who joined Derby County on loan with a high reputation during his time in the Everton youth set-up.
The 19-year-old notched 25 goal involvements in 36 games for the Toffees’ under-18s side and is certainly a player with a lot of talent. It was hoped his move to Pride Park would’ve seen Dobbin really kick on and get himself in line for a loan move higher up the pyramid or get a look in for Frank Lampard’s first eleven.
Sadly, he has really struggled to hit the sort of form which was expected of him after his summer move. Dobbin has failed to score a league goal thus far and has only registered two assists for Paul Warne’s side. The main positive for Dobbin is that the Derby boss is displaying immense faith in the youngster, despite his form.
The Everton loanee has featured in 14 of Derby’s last 16 matches, so it’s clear he will be given the chance to shine at the East Midland’s club. It’s now time for the young winger to repay the faith shown in him and really kickstart his season with some goalscoring form.
The underlying statistics do suggest that an uptick in form could well be on the cards for the youngster if he can be more clinical in front of goal. As per Wyscout, Dobbin’s expected goals is nearly four, which is considerably better than his actual output at the moment.
He is getting into the right areas, he just has to be far more clinical when in and around the box. Dobbin’s 22 per cent shot accuracy is a telling sign that he must improve his end product. This loan spell is not the be-all and end-all for Dobbin. At 19, it’s an excellent learning curve for him to be experiencing first-team football at a huge club like Derby.
