View: Lewis Dobbin sends Everton reminder with 'outrageous' FA Cup strike
Lewis Dobbin scored a wondergoal for Derby County in the Rams’ 5-0 FA Cup win over Torquay and the Everton loanee could’ve sent a gentle reminder to those at Goodison Park.
The 19-year-old suffered League Cup heartbreak earlier in the month as Paul Warne’s side lost to Liverpool on penalties, with Dobbin missing from the spot.
His career at Pride Park has yet to really get going, however, with the winger yet to get on the scoresheet in the league. However, his latest strike, which was brandished as “outrageous” by BBC Sport’s official Twitter account, would’ve caught the eye at Goodison Park.
The winger smashed a first-time volley into the top corner in the 62nd minute, which would’ve beaten pretty much any keeper in the world. It’s now time for the Everton loanee to really make a mark in League One and demonstrate he is capable of competing in Frank Lampard’s plans at Goodison Park.
At 19, Dobbin has plenty of years ahead of him to become a regular on Merseyside. Anthony Gordon has to be an example for the youngster to follow, with Gordon nearly leaving Everton for big money in the summer.
With Kevin Thelwell now one of the key decision-makers at Goodison Park, there’s a good chance Dobbin will be given the chance to impress. Thelwell has previously shown younger players to be a priority during his time at Wolves, and there’s nothing to suggest anything different will happen on Merseyside.
Derby face Portsmouth in their next fixture, and all eyes will be on Dobbin to see if he can continue his good recent form on the South Coast.
