View: Liel Abada bound to draw attention after electric Celtic form

Liel Abada has enjoyed an electric start to the season and Celtic should be braced for interest in the 20-year-old Israeli international.

Abada scored a memorable brace in Celtic’s 4-0 victory over Rangers in the first Old Firm meeting of the season on Saturday 3 September.

The promising sign for Celtic fans is that his good form is backed up by his excellent underlying numbers, however, if he continues performing at Parkhead, Premier League clubs will surely start to show interest in him.

As per Wyscout, his expected goals against Celtic was 0.19 compared to his average of 0.4, which displays that, despite scoring twice, he got himself into situations where should’ve added more to his tally.

Abada has also demonstrated that he is a modern winger who will drift inside into a more central position to make himself a goal threat in and around the box.

This is displayed by the Israeli amassing over five touches a match in the opposition box and was perfectly displayed in his two finishes against Rangers.

However, Abada also demonstrates that he can display attributes that are expected from out and out wide men with the 20-year-old attempting 5.5 dribbles per 90 minutes with a high success rate of 60 per cent.

Modern wingers such as the Celtic man are prised assets in today’s game and at 20, it would not be a surprise for interest to really start to ramp up over the course of the winter and into January.

Even if Abada’s long-term future isn’t at Parkhead, the Hoops will certainly be able to generate a big transfer for the winger, who is contracted to the club until 2026.

In other Celtic news, Matt O’Riley’s Old Firm display shows he’s a big game player.
