View: Malcom Ebiowei dribbling ability will be huge Crystal Palace hit

Crystal Palace have reportedly beaten Manchester United to the signing of Derby County’s 18-year-old winger Malcolm Ebiowei and this is a player who should get Palace fans off their feet.

It was revealed by The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday 22 June, that the young winger is set to sign for the Eagles on a deal until June 2027.

Ebiowei featured 16 times for Derby in the latter part of the 2021/22 season scoring once and notching two assists.

However, if his underlying stats are anything to go by, then the Selhurst Park faithful have plenty to get excited about.

Despite only being 18, the young attacker certainly doesn’t lack confidence and could fit in well with the flare players that Palace have at their disposal.

As per Wyscout, Ebiowei averages a staggering 13.58 dribbles per 90, which is 5 more than the next best in the Championship.

Furthermore, the youngster also ranks inside the top 15 in the Championship for crosses per 90 with 4.27.

Sometimes in the modern game, players are reluctant to cross, but in Ebiowei it seems Palace have landed themselves somewhat of an old fashion winger in very young shoes.

There are certainly some statistics that indicate that he is an extremely raw talent, such as his 26% cross accuracy rate and his failure to provide attacking output.

Nevertheless, the winger will undoubtedly thrive under Patrick Viera at Selhurst Park with Palace acquiring an excellent array of talent from the EFL over the years.

It’s important he continues to play first-team football so a loan move could be an option in the near future, although it wouldn’t be a shock to see him feature for Palace in the Premier League this season.
