View: West Brom must exercise recall option on Caleb Taylor in January

The West Brom defence has been all over the place this season and they can do with some reinforcements in the January transfer window.

While Steve Bruce faces an uncertain future at the Hawthorns, there are no guarantees as to whether or not he’ll still be there at the club then.

Regardless, any new manager would want to spruce up the defence and recalling Caleb Taylor from his loan spell at Cheltenham Town will surely be an option worth considering.

The Baggies lost 3-2 to Birmingham City on Wednesday and now find themselves in a dismal 20th spot with relegation now looking more likely than promotion.

Surely, after the players the Baggies signed and having one of the most experienced managers, they would not have expected this.

Despite starting the season strongly, Semi Ajayi and Dara O’Shea have both shown signs of weakness and this has heightened the need to bring in reinforcements sooner rather than later.

Taylor, who was loaned out to Cheltenham this summer, is showing why he may be able to address the answer to West Brom’s defensive woes.

Despite being at a side that’s undergoing transition, he’s managing to shine, against all odds.

This is his first season in professional football and he’s already made a spot in the back three his own – starting every league game.

The fans are already loving the impact he’s had on the team and it can be argued that he’s been one of their players of the season so far.

It’s a no brainer for West Brom, they need to recall him in January.

In other West Brom news, Albion are interested in Aston Villa’s Cameron Archer.
