View: Wolves must consider January recall for Ki-Jana Hoever

Wolves have had differing levels of success from their players out on loan this season with ten players currently on temporary agreements away from Molineux.

Young striker Fabio Silva has been a hit in Belgium with Anderlecht, scoring nine goals in 26 appearances for the Jupiler League side in the 2022/23 campaign. Furthermore, Silva is getting plenty of minutes under his belt which is only going to boost his development further.

20-year-old Luke Cundle is also performing well on loan for Swansea, having made ten Championship appearances so far. However, one player who hasn’t had it quite as easy since leaving the Black Country is full-back Ki-Jana Hoever.

The right-back is currently out on loan at PSV Eindhoven but hasn’t featured regularly for the Eredivisie side. He has featured just five times in the league, primarily from the bench. Ultimately, Wolves sent the youngster out to get game time, and it has backfired.

Hoever won’t be developing at all at the moment, and Wolves should seriously consider cutting his loan move short to either bring him back into the first-team fold or sent him out on loan in the Championship.

When given the chance by PSV, the youngster appears to have performed well with an expected assists (XA, Wyscout) of 0.23 per 90 minutes for the Dutch side. This means, he should be registering an assist just over every four games, which for a full-back is good going.

PSV have handled Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in a similar way, viewing the youngster as a backup option, as opposed to giving him minutes. The Eredivisie side are clearly not brilliant at handling young loan players and it could well backfire if both players return to their parent clubs in January.
