Ian Wright and Jermain Defoe wax lyrical over Nottingham Forest ace Brennan Johnson

Ian Wright and Jermain Defoe waxed lyrical over Nottingham Forest ace Brennan Johnson for his goal against Everton on Saturday.

The 21-year-old was on song in the Premier League and scored a well-placed effort that beat Jordan Pickford between the sticks.

Had it not been for Demarai Gray’s late equaliser, it would have handed Forest their first away victory since promotion.

Speaking on Premier League Productions’ Matchday Extra, Wright said, “It’s a very underrated finish. He knows he’s going over that side to score. Really good and clinical finish.”

Defoe chimed in to say, “It’s brilliant. He was the first one to react. So calm. He just passed it into the corner.”

Absolute baller

Johnson has hit the ground running and has carried on from where he left off in the Championship.

Often when players come up from promoted sides, they take some time to get going as the Premier League is a completely different ball game.

At 21, Johnson was already his side’s best player and despite signing 16 players this summer, Forest and their manager Steve Cooper will still be looking at him to provide the goods.

The finish against the Toffees showed that he’s a mature attacker who’s ready to get better and go to the next level.

Whether that’s going to be at the City Ground or at a bigger club, it remains to be seen, but as of now, the Wales international appears to be enjoying his football.

The fans are already in love with him as he’s been there for the last 13 years and it will be heartbreaking if he ends up leaving.

In other Nottingham Forest news, the club may have found the perfect replacement for Neco Williams.
