View: Nottingham Forest may have already found the perfect Djed Spence replacement
Nottingham Forest may have found the perfect Djed Spence replacement after Neco William’s impressive performance against West Ham.
Steve Cooper’s newly-promoted team were unfortunately not able to re-sign the full-back who performed so well during their promotion run last season, with Spence joining Tottenham instead. [Sky Sports]
However, they did manage to sign the 21-year-old Williams from Liverpool on a permanent deal, and if his performance against West Ham was anything to go by, they may have a more-than-ready replacement.
Williams v West Ham.
The Welsh international started in his usual right-back position and had a solid display during the Premier League new-boys’ victory.
During the victory, Williams made six tackles, completed four clearances and also made two key passes during his 90 minutes on the City Ground turf.
In addition to this, he also attempted nine crosses and had 76 touches during the game, more than any other Forest player.
Wearing number seven, he was a constant menace down the right flank, being sound defensively and nullifying Aaron Cresswell’s offensive threat, while also getting up the pitch and delivering some dangerous crosses.
The former Liverpool man also had a chance to score in the first half when his close-range shot was well blocked by West Ham keeper Lukasz Fabianski.
Admittedly, Williams still has a long way to match Spence’s outstanding season where he made 50 appearances, scoring three goals and providing five assists.
However, his performance against David Moyes’ was a great start and if he can find some consistency, Forest fans will forget all about Spence in no time.
In other Nottingham Forest news, Jesse Lingard’s arrival could affect Brennan Johnson’s development.
