Giovanni Van Bronckhorst confirms Alex Lowry in talks to renew Rangers contract

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed that Rangers are in discussions with Alex Lowry about renewing his contract at Ibrox.

The young midfielder has been excellent for the Rangers youth team this season and has made a handful of first-team appearances too under the boss.

With his current contract set to expire at the end of next season, there has been rumoured interest from other clubs in a potential cut-price deal. But van Bronckhorst has shared that the club are looking to tie him down to fresh terms.

“Alex is one of the big talents we have coming through in the Academy and we are in talks for him to sign a new contract because I think he will be an important player for the future of this club,” he said in his press conference, as quoted by Daily Record.

“Talks are still in process so hopefully we will have positive news in the coming weeks.”

With so many first-team contracts set to expire between now and the summer of 2023 at Rangers, it’s great news that the club are working hard on keeping one of their brightest talents.

Lowry has proven on a number of occasions this season that he is too good for youth football now and is ready to step up into the first-team as an option.

With Steven Davis out of contract, Aaron Ramsey set to leave after his loan expires and all of Ryan Jack, Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent entering the final 12 months of their deal there is a chance to get him involved regularly next season.

A new deal would give them the chance to integrate him in slowly and ensure they aren’t forced to lose him for next to nothing or for free.

The boss is clearly positive about their chances and Lowry hasn’t made any fuss about potentially leaving, so all signs are positive that he will be at Ibrox next year and beyond.
