Tottenham Hotspur eye summer swoop for Djed Spence - report

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a summer swoop for Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence who’s currently on loan at Nottingham Forest.

According to The Athletic, the 21-year-old has been admired by the Spurs hierarchy for a while and they’re continuing to keep tabs on him.

Once Forest’s play-off final against Huddersfield is done, Tottenham will get further clarity on the defender’s intentions for the future.

Sign him

Spurs appear to be backing Antonio Conte this summer as Daniel Levy has realised his mistakes from the past.

The Italian may be demanding to work with, but if he gets what he’s asked, he mostly delivers on his promises.

Spence is a player who appears to be a perfect fit for the Italian’s system.

Conte likes to play with wing-backs high up the pitch and requires them to have an incredible work rate and often act like auxiliary wingers.

The 21-year-old can do that, no questions asked, as it’s the position he has thrived in the Championship.

While the Premier League is a completely different ball game, working under a coach like Conte could help Spence to adapt and become a good fit in this system.

It remains to be seen how much Middlesbrough demand for his services and whether or not there aren’t other clubs that the Englishman would rather move to.

In other Spurs news, an 18-year-old has now penned a new Tottenham Hotspur deal.
