Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp receives new shirt number

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp has been given the number four shirt for the upcoming season, with Antonio Conte a big fan of the player.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder had a successful loan at Norwich City in 2020 and has since consolidated himself as a reliable first-team player at North London under different managers.

He has now been rewarded for his performances with a new squad number that indicates his first-team status and the trust that Conte has in him.

What type of player is Skipp?

Skipp is a tenacious, tough-tackling midfielder who combines his good reading of the game with a great ability to win his duels and regain possession through interceptions and tackles.

The England under-21 international is a well-rounded player with a good range of passing and the ability to carry the ball through the lines nearly as well as he can pass through them.

The Tottenham youth product is yet to score for Tottenham and with only one goal during his season-long loan at Norwich, he is yet to become a threat in the opposition’s box at this point in his development.

However, he has established himself as a well-rounded young midfielder who made himself a mainstay under both former manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, and current manager Conte up until his season ending injury last year.

He has now been rewarded for his excellent performances with a number more recognising of his importance to the team and is set for a bright future and pivotal role in Conte’s revolution in North London.
