Tottenham: Troy Parrott proves he's ready for big time with last-gasp international heroics

Tottenham Hotspur may be safe knowing they have Harry Kane to lead the line every week but he isn’t the only striker making big waves in football right now.

Troy Parrott, 20, has launched himself into the limelight for the Republic of Ireland national team after scoring a 97th-minute winner against Lithuania last night [Tuesday] to lift the spirits of Stephen Kenny’s side.

He has usurped any other striker in the entire country to be the Republic’s leading man and he already has three international goals to his name in 12 appearances.

It might not be the most incredible ratio in terms of goals per game but considering they are often up against opposition ranked higher than themselves, he hasn’t done too badly at all.

Antonio Conte will have been keeping a close eye on his progress while on loan at Milton Keynes Dons in League One and he could’ve been forgiven for thinking he isn’t ready yet having scored just five times in 34 matches.

But the Italian has to look beyond the pure stats and focus on his complete game which is up there with some of the best young strikers in world football.

He is ready to play a part for Spurs next season despite a less than prolific year at Stadium MK as long as the manager can put his trust in him to come up trumps lie he did for Ireland yesterday.

It’s often the biggest hurdle for a manager but as soon as he plays him once, the games, and goals, will come flooding in.

In other Football Wonderkids news, Wolves must give Morgan Gibbs-White a Premier League chance next season.
