View: Djed Spence is ideal for Antonio Conte and will thrive at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur target Djed Spence will be an incredible signing for Antonio Conte and one he must pursue at all costs this summer.

According to the Evening Standard, Spurs are planning fresh talks over a move for the Middlesbrough right-back, who shone at Nottingham Forest on loan in the 2021/22 campaign

Boro are holding out £15million even though the North London club tried to bring the price down for the 21-year-old.

After struggling to get game time at the Riverside Stadium, he moved to Forest and played a key role in getting them promotion.

As the WhoScored stats above suggest, he would undoubtedly be an upgrade on Emerson Royal, especially in the final third.

Conte links his wing-backs to serve as wingers most of the times as his two wide centre-backs operate as full-backs without the ball while his central midfielders drop into advanced centre-back roles.

Royal may be decent in terms of his defending, but going forward he does not carry too much of a threat.

He’s not great at taking the pall past his opponents as it can be seen by his 0.6 dribbles per game.

Spence, on the other, hand record nearly two dribbles every 90 minutes – which is pretty impressive – even though it’s in the Championship.

He’s also better in terms of his progressive passes and tends to buy more fouls than the average right-back.

He’s also versatile enough to play as a winger as well – making him an attractive prospect.

His defensive stats are also equally impressive and he actually gives Royal quite a run for his money as he averages more blocks and interceptions per 90 minutes and also gets dribbled past on fewer occasions and is not as rash with his challenges.

If we were Daniel Levy, we would pay up whatever Boro are asking as the interest in him is only going to rise in the coming years.

In other Spurs news, an 18-year-old has now penned a new Tottenham Hotspur deal.
